Julia Wilson traveled to Brazil in November 2012 on behalf of Wilson Global client, the National Urban League, with a delegation led by Ms. Reta Jo Lewis, U.S. Dept. of State Special Representative for Global Intergovernmental Affairs. The visit was a part of mutual commitments outlined in an MOU signed by former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton to assist the Federative Republic of Brazil with preparations towards the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Wilson’s mission was to scope opportunities for possible collaboration with government entities and afro-Brazilian organizations to enhance racial and social inclusion in preparation for the games, and to improve civic engagement of afro-Brazilians.
The delegation, made up of a prominent group of American business leaders, visited Brasilia and São Paulo and met with key Brazilian ministers and other government officials. The delegation also toured construction sites of stadiums being built for the games.
